FIDE World Team Championship will take place from March 4th -15th, 2019 in Astana, in which the strongest national teams of 14 countries whose chess federations dominated their continent will participate in the championship. For the first time in the history both Open Team and Women’s Team Championships will be held in Kazakhstan.
Twenty teams will play in the tournament – ten men’s and ten women’s teams from China, Azerbaijan, Iran, USA, Egypt, Russia, Poland, England, India, Ukraine, Georgia, Hungary, Armenia and Kazakhstan. Among them defending world team champion, continental champions, six highest ranked teams from the FIDE Olympiad 2018, two team from host federation, two teams nominated by the FIDE President. The title of World Champion in the teams competition are awarded for men and women section separately.
Kazakhstan’s both men and women national team will be represented by the country’s strongest chess players: Rinat Jumabaev, Murtas Kazhgaleyev, Anuar Ismagambetov, Denis Makhnev, Petr Kostenko, Zhansaya Abdumalik, Dinara Saduakasova, Guliskhan Nakhbaeva, Gulmira Dauletova, Madina Dauletbaeva. “It’s amazing to be the host of the tournament, and fight with the best of the best,” the leader of the Kazakhstan men’s team, Rinat Jumabayev, admits. “Frankly, everything feels easier at home. Our team is fully armed and ready to fight. ”
Every team requires a Team captain, 4 players and 1 reserve player. The championship will be played in round robin system with 9 rounds. More than a hundred chess players, arbiters and guests will take part in the tournament. FIDE Presidential Board meeting will be held during the championship.
“The championship expected to be spectacular,” said the Executive Director of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, Irina Gryshchenko, “we will host the best teams all over the world. It is an honor and privilege to be the organizers of the event. For our guests, we planned a guided tour through the capital of Kazakhstan.
As a members of the Presidential Board meeting Nigel Short – the legendary English chess player, Judit Polgar – the only female grandmaster who won in Rapid Karpov, Kasparov, Anand and Karlsen will visit Astana. Also we are expected grandmasters Fabiano Caruana and Sergey Karyakin.
FIDE World Team Championships have been conducted every two years since 1985. The current winner among the men is the Chinese team, and among the women is Russian team.
